Willy Novinsky meets her match in Eric Oberdorf. Eric aims to make his mark on the international tennis circuit. Willy discovers her first passion outside the tennis court.

They marry, but a blissful lovemaking soon gives way to a competition over who will make it to the top. Willy maintains the lead until she rips her knees. Eric becomes the upstart darling on the tennis circuit. Due to her anguish at falling short of a long life dream, Willy’s devotions to her husband grow tragically twisted with resentment of his success.
