The President of the University of St. Martin (USM), Mrs. Annelies Oliver-Van den Assem and Director of Philipsburg Jubilee Library (PJ) and Ms. Monique Alberts signed a Service Labor Agreement (SLA).
This SLA is an important step forward in the integration process of the USM library and the PJ Library.

As per the SLA, PJ will be providing information services to USM students and faculty on both USM and PJ premises. An academic section for USM students will be created at the premises of PJ Library. The information services provided by PJ’s librarians will certainly enhance the quality of education at USM. For the PJ library, the academic literature and an online database will be a welcomed addition to its existing collection.

USM President says: USM is subjected to the economy of scales of our small country with a limited student population. Nonetheless USM still wishes to provide quality education to its students and that requires, among other things, a high-quality library function. For USM to take on this challenge on its own is a very costly affair, again, because of its limited number of students. Working together with the PJ Library is a win-win situation for both institutions. Piggybacking on the amenities of PJ Library through this SLA the economies of scale rises. Hence, USM gets total access to a professional library function, while PJ Library, through its service to USM, is strengthened as institution also.
