Library’s Poetry Month Concludes with Prize-Giving Ceremony

The end of the Poetry month at the library was heralded with a closing-off ceremony for the poetry contest where members of the general public could submit their poems. During a small ceremony that took place outdoors on the library’s patio, a selection of persons who submitted their poems were invited to recite their poems.

Author and poet, Mr. Fabian Adekunle Badejo hosted the evening’s ceremony where attendees were delighted to the artistic reveries of burgeoning poets. The poetry contest was open to persons of all ages and contestants were grouped into three categories, namely: adults, secondary school and primary school. The contest was presided over by expert judges who graded the submitted poems based on criteria relating to the use of descriptive language, linguistics, rhythm and flow, sound pattern or repetition, and use of regional or local themes, among other aspects.

The first place winners were Kevin C. James, Gracelyn Toulon and Diya Asrani in the adult, secondary school and primary school categories, respectively. The second place prize went to poets Orlando Patterson, Sade Sherriff and Jathan Edward.

The library would like to thank all those who have volunteered their time in order to make poetry month possible as well as the businesses and authors who generously provided their donations towards the Poetry month activities.
