Wake up, Stay Active, Be A Reader
From August 2, 2012 to August 19, 2012.
Philipsburg Jubilee Library’s summer reading program “Wake up, stay active, be a reader” came to a fun ending on July 27th with dancing and riding on Da Party bus and the Carrousel.
A total of 36 children participated in the summer program; they enjoyed Shabba’s Djembre musical workshop and hike excursion which was done by the company Tri Sport. The hiking took placed from Cole Bay’s Le’ Grande Marche to French Side Bellevue’s Solidarity Agricultural Gardens. They were informed about the historical aspects of the island open border, plants like the acacia tree that were not indigenous to the island, and view the unspoiled nature of the area. At the Gardens children tasted the sweet mangoes and listen intently to the explanation given about the different medical usages of the tree, and vegetation. We were accompanied by the Red Cross, St. Maarten’s Chapter. The Children also enjoyed story time which was complimented with activities. Ms Ivette Grant as a special guest instructed them on how to make a basket (box) by sewing canvas. To remain active they enjoyed a mini sports day on the library premises.
Every Thursday evening during the summer except the 26th of July we had the entire family in mind; funny family related movies were shown.
On Thursday the 26th the library had a mini fun show; where Mo D Joker, Dexter the Clown and Storyteller Maryland Powell entertained them all. All in all the children had fun, without their participation the library’s summer program would not have been successful. Special thanks goes out to Shabba (Erwin James), Charles Fleming, Da Party Bus, Carrousel, the Red Cross, Mo D Joker, Tri Sport, Solidarity Agricultural Gardens, and Dexter the clown.
Thank you, children of summer program 2012, Hope to see you next year when the library organizes yet another Reading program for you.
